  abstract      = {Corporate Fitness may be defined as the strategic flexibility to adapt the r organization to the ever changing challenges of competition, again and again. Such an organization will be able to grab business opportunities as they appear. Let us look back at the evolution of business software made-to-order. We find increasing penetration of organizations with systems that were developed from a departmental point of view. This ended up eventually - through many steps of partial improvements - with frozen organizations. Organizations that were unable to develop any further, but rather hand-cuffed by their legacy IT-infra-structure, which actually preserved the outdated business processes. In order to exploit the potential benefits of IT, a change of the organizational paradigm from functional- towards process-oriented was necessary. Usually, such business process (re)-engineering projects are regarded as revolutionary. However, they often fail to meet the intended objectives. Even if they do, a one-time effort cannot match a moving target, the competition, persistently. The concept of Business Work-flow decouples the implementation of business functions from (structure & business process) organization. An ideal work-flow engine largely adapts to organizational changes, once these have been described in active Models of Businesses Processes and the Organizational Structure. These Models also serve as a foundation for a business oriented management of the Human capital. Striving to improve the business processes and to clear away bottle-necks, the process owners will develop an on-the-job experience of the contribution of the Human Assets employed to the bottom line. Business Workflow brings the Human Resources Professional closer to the business community. At the same time, there will be a shift in the job profile of the HR professional with more emphasis on systems and coaching. Together, Workflow and HR brings us another step closer to corporate fitness. }
